Hope

Estelle is a selfless girl who would do anything for others, even if it meant risking her own life. Yet, during Brave Vesperia's travels Estelle is constantly asking the group to satisfy her demands such as going to see Phaeroh and returning the red box to Yu Fan in Yormgen. This leads to her being often scolded by Judith for being so self centered and not thinking about others. This would be selfishness wouldn't it? But then if Estelle is both selfless and selfish won't that make her a pretty balance character? Some people often criticize Estelle for being an immature selfish girl who can only think of her own desires and that if she wasn't like that, everything would be much better. Would it? If Estelle did not have that selfish side of her would she still be healing others non stop? If Estelle stopped and thought about the well being of others, of how those injured would feel would she still be constantly trying to save them? Let's say that someone was willing to sacrifice themselves for the world even though there was a way to save the world without sacrificing them. If Estelle obliged to that person's wishes she will not heal them but since Estelle is selfish and wants her own wish of wanting everyone to be healthy she will indeed heal them. I believe that if Estelle was not selfish she would not have this "selfless" nature manifest inside of her. Yet this selflessness of Estelle has its negative sides. For example, during the Belius sequence, Belius pleads to Estelle not to heal her but Estelle, engulfed by her selfish belief of wanting to save Belius her own way, attempts to heal Belius which in turn makes her berserk forcing the party to kill her.

When Estelle heals someone it seems like her selfish nature completely disappears, in a sort of contradictory way. She could care less about herself; even if she herself was injured she would not hesitate to heal others before herself. This might seem good for the people but is it? Due to Estelle's power every time she heals it unbalances the aer in the world causing havoc which of course, negatively affects the population. Although by healing, Estelle saves the person yet only temporary since sooner or later with the aer problem Terca Lumireis will fall right? That is until she is able to control her power which happens later on in the game.

In that sense, Estellse is a rather complex and contradictory character. Yet as the saying goes, there is no such thing as a selfless act.
